The Holidays Test How a Service Business Handles Demand. Here Is a Free Way to Look First.

Duluth, United States - November 5, 2026 / Slaidel Consulting /

ATLANTA, GA – November 5, 2026 – Thanksgiving is three weeks away, and for many home service companies the busiest stretch of the year starts the day after. Slaidel Hernandez, systems strategist and founder of Slaidel Consulting, is pointing owners to a short way to look at their business before it does: the free revenue diagnostic, an optional self-assessment on the Slaidel Consulting website.

The seasonal pattern is well documented. Roto-Rooter has reported that incoming calls on the day after Thanksgiving run 50 percent above an average Friday, making it the company's busiest day of the year. Jobber's Home Service Economic Report: 2025 Review and 2026 Outlook, based on data from more than 350,000 home service professionals in the United States, found that the fourth quarter followed a familiar pattern across all four major segments it tracks: uneven demand in October and November, then a rebound in December.

The demand tends to arrive. What happens next is the part an owner controls. In a Harvard Business Review study of online sales leads at 2,241 U.S. companies, published in 2011, the average response time among companies that replied within 30 days was 42 hours. Companies that tried to reach a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it, meaning a meaningful conversation with a decision maker, as companies that tried even an hour later.

"Most owners think the holidays are a lead problem. A lot of the time, they're a handling problem," said Hernandez. "The calls come in. The question is who picks up at 6:40 on a Tuesday night, and what happens to the quote that went out Thursday and never got a second touch. That's where the money leaves, and from inside a busy week it's hard to see which of those it is."

The Revenue Diagnostic follows one inquiry through the business across the three parts of what Slaidel Consulting calls the Revenue Engine: Generate, where customers find the company; Capture & Convert, covering response, estimates and follow-through; and Optimize, covering booked jobs, repeat business and visibility. It is 13 questions, takes about three minutes and is mostly taps. Rough answer bands are fine.

The page is plain about what the tool is and is not. It is a place to look, not a verdict on the business, a forecast or an outside audit. Any estimate it shows is built from the owner's own inputs. The answers can also prepare a fit call if the owner chooses to book one, though no call is required.

The diagnostic is built for established home service businesses, including HVAC, plumbing, roofing, restoration, foundation repair, cleaning and electrical companies, and more. Many of these companies already have capable teams, working processes and marketing in place. The point is to find which handoffs deserve a closer look, without assuming anything is broken.

Hernandez also suggests a test any owner can run tonight, no tool required. Call your own business after hours. Then send a quote request through your own website form. Notice who answers, how long a real reply takes, and whether anyone follows up on the quote a few days later. If the call rings out, lands in a voicemail nobody checks until morning, or the reply shows up the next day, that is the first place to look before holiday volume arrives.

Slaidel Consulting installs and runs a Revenue Engine for established home service businesses. The firm builds on what already works, improves what is underperforming, connects what is disconnected and adds what is missing, then operates it every month with the owner approving the key decisions.
